SAFR Demonstrates Flexible Biometric Privacy Controls at GSX 2026

SAFR is presenting a face-recognition system designed to give organizations control over data storage and retention, aiming to resolve the tension between security visibility and user privacy.

SAFR’s approach focuses on providing multiple options for how biometric information is handled, where it is stored, and how long it is retained, rather than enforcing a single, rigid method.
Data storage options give users control
A key feature of the SAFR SCAN platform is the ability to store biometric data on individual devices, such as mobile phones or smart cards. This decentralized approach allows users to retain ownership of their facial data, reducing the risk of large-scale data breaches associated with central servers.
The system also includes intent-based access controls designed to prevent background scanning. By ensuring that facial recognition only activates when intended, the technology aims to minimize the collection of data from people who are not the subject of a security check.
On-device processing minimizes data retention
SAFR’s camera system processes face matching directly on the hardware itself. When a face does not match a registered profile, the system deletes the non-matching data immediately. This method helps limit unnecessary data collection, ensuring that only relevant security events are recorded.
John Cassise, Chief Product Officer at SAFR, stated that security and privacy should not be viewed as opposing forces. He noted that organizations have different requirements and should have the flexibility to choose how they deploy face-based security, rather than having their privacy decisions dictated by the technology itself.
Integration with existing security infrastructure
The company plans to demonstrate its ecosystem across both access control and video surveillance at the event. SAFR emphasizes that its solutions can be integrated with existing security infrastructure, allowing organizations to apply the technology only in areas where it is most relevant.
This modular approach allows security teams to select privacy approaches that align with their specific regulatory and ethical requirements. The demonstration will take place at Booth 2051 during the conference in Atlanta, offering a practical look at how these controls function in real-world scenarios.
