Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Prioritizes Battery Life over App Flexibility

The new Huawei smartwatch offers a week of battery life, outperforming Samsung and Google, but requires users to accept a restricted software environment.
Huawei has released the Watch GT 7 Pro, a device that prioritizes endurance above all else. According to reports from Android Central, the watch delivers up to seven days of battery life under heavy usage, a significant advantage over rivals like the Galaxy Watch 9 and Pixel Watch 5, which typically require charging every two days. This extended runtime is the primary differentiator for users who find frequent charging burdensome.
The device features a premium build with a titanium alloy chassis and a ceramic bezel, giving it a substantial weight of 55 grams. While this makes it feel more like a traditional timepiece than a lightweight gadget, it comes at the cost of portability compared to lighter competitors. The watch is priced at $511, though launch offers may reduce this to $443, and it includes free accessories such as a smart scale.
Endurance Outpaces Rival Devices
The core appeal of the GT 7 Pro is its ability to last a week without charging. This performance is achieved through efficient hardware and software management, allowing for continuous health monitoring, always-on display usage, and daily exercise tracking. If the always-on display is disabled, the battery life can stretch to approximately ten days. This longevity addresses a common pain point for smartwatch users who are tired of the daily or bi-daily charging routine.
Premium Build and Design Choices
Visually, the watch retains the design language of its predecessor, offering a familiar yet refined aesthetic. The new color options, including a vibrant yellow fluoroelastomer strap, add a sporty touch that can be swapped for a more formal band. The 46mm case houses a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen that is bright enough for clear visibility in direct sunlight. The inclusion of a rotating crown aids in navigation, providing a tactile interaction method that distinguishes it from touchscreen-only rivals.
Health Features and Software Limits
The watch supports comprehensive health monitoring, including heart rate, blood oxygen, ECG, and sleep tracking. A new readiness score aggregates these metrics into a single indicator, similar to features found in Google's ecosystem. However, the software experience is constrained by a lightweight real-time operating system. This means users cannot install third-party apps, limiting the device's versatility compared to fully open platforms. While it excels in fitness tracking, particularly for skiing and cycling, the lack of app support is a trade-off for the extended battery life and efficient operation.
