Nigeria Urges African Unity on Cross-Border Security Threats

Nigeria’s Defence Minister has called for enhanced continental unity and intelligence sharing to combat terrorism and transnational crime during AU sessions in Burundi. He emphasized the need to counter emerging technological threats like AI and cyber warfare while addressing socioeconomic drivers of instability through comprehensive governance and development strategies.
According to reporting from GN auto geopolitics/terrorism: counter terrorism, Minister of State for Defence Bello Muhammed Matawalle specifically warned that emerging technologies like drones, AI, and cyber capabilities are increasingly being exploited for recruitment and illicit finance, urging the continent to invest in R&D while maintaining responsible usage. He further stressed that military action must be paired with addressing root causes such as poverty and weak institutions to achieve lasting stability.
