Thales has unveiled HexaForce, a next-generation command and control platform explicitly designed for NATO and its allied nations. The system, launched in September 2026, represents a significant step toward integrating artificial intelligence into sovereign defense infrastructure. According to the company, the platform is already available on the market and has undergone validation during recent NATO exercises.
The introduction of this system coincides with a broader trend in defense procurement where governments are prioritizing interoperable security architectures. As high-intensity conflicts generate unprecedented volumes of data, the need for automated analysis and rapid decision-making has become a central focus for military planners. Thales positions HexaForce as a response to these evolving operational requirements, leveraging its existing expertise in secure communications.
AI Architecture and Operational Scaling
At the core of HexaForce is the cortAIx accelerator, a dedicated engine supported by a team of 800 engineers and data scientists. This infrastructure integrates Large Language Models and agentic AI capabilities to process data from military, open-source, and civilian origins. The primary operational goal is to scale the processing capacity from 100 to 1,000 targets per day, a shift intended to shorten planning cycles and enhance situational awareness.
Thales cites its previous deployment of Artemis.IA with the French Ministry of Armed Forces since 2023 as a foundational proof of concept. This prior experience provides a baseline for the claims made regarding the new system's ability to handle complex data streams. The company suggests that these capabilities are no longer aspirational but rather measurable outputs required for modern high-intensity conflict scenarios.
Market Alignment and Interoperability
According to the Futurum Group, platform integration has become the dominant criterion for security decision-makers, with nearly half ranking it as their top factor. HexaForce addresses this demand through an open architecture that supports Data-Centric Security and Federated Mission Networking standards.
