VN-Index Climbs 13 Points on Securities Sector Strength

The benchmark VN-Index closed at 1,822.77 points on Thursday. Gains in securities and banking stocks offset declines in the energy sector.

The VN-Index rose by 12.98 points to close at 1,822.77 on Thursday. This move lifted the benchmark to its highest level in the session. The HNX-Index also advanced, gaining 0.68 points to reach 273.90.

Market breadth favored buyers across the exchanges. 282 stocks closed higher while 174 declined. Trading volume on the two main exchanges exceeded 18.8 trillion VND, equivalent to 722.8 million USD.

Securities stocks lead the rally

Securities shares were the primary driver of the market's gain. SSI Securities stock rose by 2.9 percent. VIX Securities shares increased by 1.6 percent.

SSI recorded matched volume of over 41 million shares. VIX traded over 39 million shares. Other firms in the sector, including Vietcap, VNDirect, and SHS, posted solid gains with high liquidity.

Banking and property sectors gain

Banking stocks contributed positively to the index performance. VPBank was the largest contributor, adding one point to the benchmark. VPBank, Military Bank, Vietcombank, TPBank, and BIDV all closed higher.

Property developers also saw price increases. Dat Xanh Group, Khang Dien House, and CEO Group rose between 2 and 3 percent. Vingroup shares remained unchanged. Vinhomes edged up by 0.42 percent.

Energy stocks and foreign flows

The energy sector was the weakest performer in the session. The sector index fell by 0.61 percent. PV Drilling lost 2.3 percent while PV Oil dropped nearly 4 percent.

Foreign investors continued to sell net shares despite the market rise. Net selling on HoSE reached 372 billion VND. The VIC and VHM pair accounted for 370 billion VND of that net selling, according to GN auto markets/indices: market indices data.
