Seoul Selects Texas Gas Plant as First US Investment

South Korea has designated a Texas gas plant as the first project under its $200 billion US investment strategy, targeting energy needs from tech infrastructure. While the gas plant terms are locked, negotiations continue for a minority stake in Westinghouse and an Alaska LNG deal, all within strict annual spending caps.
Businesskorea reports that the Encinal gas plant is specifically designed to support power demands from new semiconductor and AI data centers, with a phased build-out starting at 1.4 GW before expanding to a total 6.3 GW. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also clarified that the potential Westinghouse stake is targeted between 5% and 10%, with officials aiming to secure two of the eight planned new reactors using Korea's APR1400 design.
