AMD Hits Record High, Targets $1 Trillion Market Cap

AMD shares surged 10% to an all-time high, placing the chipmaker on track to join the exclusive $1 trillion club driven by AI demand.
Key points
- AMD shares rose 10% to a record high, targeting a $1 trillion market cap.
- Meta’s new AI agent boosted demand for CPUs, aiding AMD’s revenue base.
- AMD gained 30% in September, reversing a prior two-month decline.
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. shares climbed as much as 10% on Monday, reaching a record high and positioning the company to close above a $1 trillion market valuation for the first time. This surge places AMD in a select group of publicly traded firms, including Micron Technology Inc., Broadcom Inc., and Nvidia Corp., that have achieved or are approaching this milestone, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The broader semiconductor sector experienced a similar uplift, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rising more than 4% for its fifth consecutive session of gains. Peers such as Intel Corp. and Arm Holdings Plc also posted significant increases, reflecting a renewed investor focus on hardware infrastructure required to support artificial intelligence workloads.
Meta’s AI Agent Fuels Chip Demand
A key driver behind this optimism is the recent launch of Meta Platform Inc.’s Muse AI Agent, which quickly reached the top slot among free applications on Apple Inc.’s App Store. This development has intensified market speculation regarding the demand for central-processing units capable of handling agentic AI tasks, directly benefiting manufacturers like AMD.
Meta, which accounts for approximately 5.5% of AMD’s revenue, saw its own shares jump more than 7% on the day. The correlation between consumer adoption of AI agents and the resulting need for server CPUs and inference infrastructure has become a central thesis for investors in the sector.
Recovery From Recent Trading Slump
AMD’s current momentum marks a sharp reversal from recent performance. The stock had shed nearly 26% from its June peak to its July trough, a two-month period of losses that dampened investor sentiment. In September, shares have gained about 30%, putting the company on track for its best monthly performance since May.
Sector-Wide Valuation Trends
The push toward trillion-dollar valuations is not isolated to AMD. As reported by spokesman.com, the sector is seeing a broad re-rating of assets tied to AI infrastructure. With 15 other companies globally already holding valuations of at least $1 trillion, AMD’s entry into this tier would further consolidate the dominance of semiconductor giants in the global market capitalization rankings.
