A new partnership between AXG and Digital Realty allows service providers to deliver dedicated private infrastructure across 31 countries without requiring clients to purchase hardware.

AXG and Digital Realty have announced a strategic partnership designed to simplify how enterprises access private infrastructure. The collaboration enables global system integrators and managed service providers to deliver fully hosted, lifecycle-managed infrastructure as a service in over 30 countries. This move aims to provide companies with the performance benefits of dedicated hardware while retaining the commercial flexibility of cloud computing.

Under this model, the underlying assets are owned and managed by the partners, allowing service providers to focus on solution design and customer relationships. Clients receive a predictable monthly recurring charge with no upfront capital expenditure. This approach removes the complexity of procurement and financing, enabling organizations to scale mission-critical workloads quickly without building their own asset ownership capabilities.

Combining Global Data Centers With Service Models

The partnership integrates Digital Realty’s PlatformDigital with AXG’s multi-technology infrastructure-as-a-service model. Digital Realty provides the physical data center space, power, cooling, and interconnection capabilities through its ServiceFabric platform. AXG then deploys and manages the specific technology stack required by the client, including hardware and software components. This division of labor ensures that the infrastructure is both globally connected and technically tailored to specific enterprise needs.

According to Bo White, CEO of AXG, enterprises are becoming more deliberate about where workloads are executed. While public cloud offers flexibility, dedicated infrastructure can provide better economics for high-utilization tasks like AI training. The partnership addresses the gap between these two models by offering sovereign-ready colocation and architectural choice, allowing data to remain close to where it is generated while maintaining the simplicity of a subscription-based service.

Targeting Four Key Enterprise Infrastructure Needs

The joint offering is structured around four primary areas of demand. First, it supports private AI by providing hosted infrastructure for training and inference workloads. Second, it offers Edge as a Service, distributing compute and networking capabilities across dozens of global locations. Third, it facilitates cloud repatriation, giving organizations a cost-controlled private alternative for workloads moving out of public clouds. Finally, it provides neo-cloud capacity for AI service providers and GPU-as-a-Service operators.

Jules Johnston, Senior Vice President of Channels and Alliances at Digital Realty, noted that this combination creates a new route to market for critical infrastructure. By leveraging the global connectivity of Digital Realty with the flexible service model of AXG, enterprises can deploy and scale systems with greater alignment to their business priorities. This is particularly relevant for government and enterprise clients who require strict data residency controls and architectural autonomy.

Trade-Offs Between Dedicated Hardware And Cloud

While the partnership offers significant advantages, it involves specific trade-offs. Dedicated infrastructure provides superior performance and control for heavy workloads but requires a commitment to a specific technology stack. The as-a-service model mitigates the financial risk of hardware ownership, but it limits the client’s ability to customize the underlying physical assets beyond what the partners support.
