Alpitronic Launches Compact Depot Charger for Fleets

Alpitronic has introduced a new wall-mounted charging unit designed specifically for electric bus and truck depots, prioritizing reliability over maximum peak power.

Alpitronic has expanded its commercial charging lineup with the introduction of the Depot Dispenser, a compact unit tailored for electric bus and truck fleets. Unlike high-power public fast chargers, this device is engineered for reliability within operational depots. According to GN auto tech/ev: electric vehicle, the new dispenser offers a streamlined approach to fleet management by focusing on consistent power delivery rather than raw speed.

The hardware is significantly smaller than previous models, measuring just 600 by 400 by 250 millimeters. It can be mounted on walls, pedestals, or overhead beams, with cable lengths ranging from 2.0 to 7.5 meters to suit different installation needs. The unit supports CCS connectors and operates within a voltage range of 150 to 1,000 volts, allowing it to handle various vehicle types efficiently.

Power output meets fleet needs

The dispenser delivers a peak current of 400 amperes, enabling a maximum charging power of 400 kilowatts. However, achieving this top figure requires the vehicle to operate near the upper limit of 1,000 volts. For many standard electric buses or trucks that operate at lower voltages, the actual power transfer will be lower, though still sufficient for scheduled depot charging cycles.

This power level aligns with the capabilities of the uncooled cable option in Alpitronic's existing EV Dispenser line. The design reflects a strategic shift toward distributed charging systems, where power is allocated based on specific vehicle requirements and dwell times rather than forcing maximum throughput at every charging point.

Simplified interface for daily use

To reduce complexity, Alpitronic has omitted the touchscreen displays found on larger commercial stations. Instead, the unit uses a simple status LED to indicate charging progress. Authentication is handled primarily through RFID, which is well-suited for fleet operations where drivers and operators need quick, seamless access to charging sessions.

Operators can optionally add card readers or QR code scanners to allow guest vehicles to charge. A legally compliant DC meter is also available as an add-on feature for precise energy accounting. These options provide flexibility without requiring drivers to interact with complex digital interfaces during their daily routines.

Efficiency improvements in the cabinet

The Depot Dispenser connects to Alpitronic's HYC1000 distributed charging system, which debuted earlier in 2025. The central Power Cabinet of this system has seen an efficiency update, now rated at up to 98.2 percent, an improvement from the initial 97.5 percent specification. This cabinet can distribute up to one megawatt of total power across multiple outputs.

While the system is capable of high total output, the Depot Dispenser is designed to draw power in manageable increments. This approach helps balance load and ensures that charging remains economical for fleet operators. The unit is expected to launch in Europe first, with other international markets to follow in subsequent phases.
