BYD expands its Spanish dealer network to 107 points and opens its first official store in Andorra, aiming for 130 locations by late 2026.

Key points

  • BYD has signed 11 new dealer groups in Spain, expanding its network to 107 official dealers and 86 workshops.
  • The company will open its first official dealership in Andorra within two months, expanding its presence in the region.
  • BYD registered 29,947 vehicles in Spain in the first eight months, surpassing its total for all of 2025.

BYD has signed agreements with 11 new dealer groups in Spain and announced it will open its first official dealership in Andorra within two months. The expansion brings the company’s Spanish network to 107 official dealers and 86 authorized workshops, according to a statement released on Monday.

The move supports a sales surge that has already exceeded last year's total. BYD registered 29,947 vehicles in Spain in the first eight months of the year, surpassing the 25,552 recorded in all of 2025. The company maintains its target of reaching 130 sales points and 120 workshops by the end of 2026.

New dealers fill regional coverage gaps

The new partners include established distributors in major markets like Madrid and Barcelona, as well as family-run businesses in regions such as Gipuzkoa and the Balearic Islands. Notably, the group Busanauto will open points in Zamora, Benavente, and Ponferrade, areas that previously had no BYD coverage.

In Andorra, Pyrénées Motors will operate the brand’s first official dealership in the principality. While BYD did not specify if all announced sites are already open, the additions are critical to meeting its year-end targets for market reach.

Plug-in hybrids drive Spanish sales growth

Sales data indicates that plug-in hybrid models are the primary engine for BYD's growth in Spain. The Atto 2 DM-i is reported as the best-selling plug-in hybrid this year, with over 8,000 registrations. More than 60% of BYD’s Spanish volume this year consists of plug-in hybrid vehicles.

BYD claims to have outperformed Tesla in electric vehicle registrations, recording 11,943 units through August. However, the company faces a significant challenge: dealers must handle a range of nearly 20 models, which requires substantial inventory management and space.

Ambitious targets face execution hurdles

To achieve its goal of exceeding 50,000 registrations in Spain this year, BYD needs to sell approximately 20,000 cars in the remaining four months. This requires an average of 5,000 sales per month, which is significantly higher than the current monthly average and the best month recorded so far.

According to eletric-vehicles.com, the company’s growth strategy relies heavily on its dealer network to manage this volume. The trade-off is that dealers must absorb a wide model lineup, potentially straining their resources as they work to meet BYD's aggressive expansion and sales targets.
