Electreon Launches Stationary Wireless Charging Pad for Parking Spots

A new inductive charging system aims to eliminate the hassle of plugging in electric vehicles by using a simple pad in the parking space, though it requires specific hardware on the car.

Electreon has introduced a new stationary wireless charging solution designed specifically for parking spaces. Unlike the company’s well-known in-road systems that charge vehicles while they are moving, this new product, called Lite DOT, targets private users and fleet operators who park their cars in fixed locations. The system delivers up to 11 kilowatts of power through an inductive charging pad mounted above the ground, removing the need for extensive excavation during installation.

The primary advantage of this setup is automation. Once a compatible vehicle is parked over the pad, the system detects the car and begins charging without any manual interaction. This feature is particularly relevant for autonomous vehicles and fleet management, where drivers may not be present to connect a charging cable. Vehicle hardware remains a requirement

Despite the convenience of the ground pad, the technology does not work entirely without additional components on the car itself. To receive energy inductively, the electric vehicle must be equipped with a vehicle-specific receiver unit. Electreon states that this receiver can be supplied either by the company or by partners in the automotive industry. However, the announcement does not yet specify which vehicle manufacturers have committed to supporting this technology, meaning availability may be limited in the initial rollout.

Designed for diverse weather conditions

The charging pad is engineered to function in both indoor and outdoor environments. Electreon specifies an operating temperature range of minus 30 to plus 50 degrees Celsius, ensuring the system remains functional in cold winters and hot summers. The hardware is also designed to withstand rain and snow, making it suitable for open-air parking lots. The system is accompanied by the Electreon Flow Driver app, which likely manages the charging session and user settings.

Expanding beyond high-power road charging

This launch marks a strategic shift for Electreon, which has previously focused on high-power inductive charging for moving vehicles. On test sections of the French A10 motorway, the company’s technology has achieved peak power levels exceeding 300 kilowatts for trucks and coaches. In contrast, Lite DOT prioritizes automated convenience over raw power, capping out at 11 kilowatts to suit the needs of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles parked for longer periods.

By acquiring US specialist InductEV earlier this year, Electreon has bolstered its intellectual property portfolio, claiming over 400 patents in wireless charging. While the high-power road systems address long-distance travel, the stationary parking solution targets the daily charging habits of urban fleets and private owners. The trade-off is clear: users gain ease of use and automation, but they must wait for broader vehicle manufacturer adoption of the required receiver hardware to fully realize the benefits.
