A new 27-inch monitor from AOC targets competitive gamers by offering a 260Hz refresh rate at a price point typically reserved for slower panels.
AOC has released the 27G51Z, a 27-inch gaming monitor designed to deliver high-speed performance without a premium price tag. Priced at $109.99, the display pushes its native 240Hz refresh rate up to 260Hz through overclocking, a specification that was previously exclusive to much more expensive hardware.
As reported by GN technics/gaming (en-US), this device aims to make high-frame-rate gaming accessible to a wider audience. The monitor pairs its high refresh rate with a 0.5ms response time, ensuring that fast-moving objects remain sharp and free from the ghosting effects that can distract players during intense matches.
High speed requires strong hardware
While the monitor itself is affordable, the graphics card required to feed it sufficient frames is not. Sustaining 260 frames per second at the monitor's 1080p resolution demands significant processing power. Budget and mid-range graphics cards can achieve this in many titles, but high-end hardware is often necessary for demanding modern games.
This creates a distinct trade-off. Users with older or lower-tier GPUs will not see the full benefit of the 260Hz capability, as their systems will be capped at lower frame rates. The monitor is best suited for players who already have, or are planning to purchase, a capable graphics card.
