Xbox Game Pass Adds Major Titles in September Second Wave

Microsoft has revealed the second batch of games arriving on its subscription platform for late September, featuring a mix of new releases and returning staples.
Microsoft has outlined the second wave of additions for its Xbox Game Pass service, scheduled for the latter half of September 2026. This update brings a diverse range of titles to subscribers across console, cloud, and PC platforms, continuing a trend of frequent library rotations. The list includes high-profile action games and indie favorites, aiming to keep the monthly content fresh for users who rely on the service for their gaming needs.
According to reporting from GN technics/gaming (en-US), the new arrivals are staggered across several dates to maintain engagement throughout the month. While some titles are exclusive to the highest tier of the subscription, others are now available to lower-tier plans as well. Subscribers should note that this rotation also involves the removal of several existing games, requiring users to make decisions about which titles to keep or let go.
Key titles arriving in late September
The most significant addition is the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on September 25. This title joins the library for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members, while also becoming available to those on the Premium tier. This is a notable shift, as major first-party shooters often reserve their launch windows for the top-tier subscription, making this accessibility change a significant value proposition for mid-tier users.
Rounding out the month is the release of Gears of War: E-Day on October 6, which will be available to Ultimate and PC subscribers from day one. This title is expected to draw a large audience due to the popularity of the franchise. Additionally, Dune: Awakening arrives on September 22, offering a survival experience that has been highly anticipated by the community. These releases suggest a focus on large-scale, multiplayer-capable experiences for the final week of the month.
Tier changes affect access levels
One of the notable changes in this wave is the expansion of access for several mid-sized titles. Games such as Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Routine, and Ninja Gaiden 4 are now included in the Game Pass Premium tier. Previously, these titles may have been restricted to the Ultimate plan or PC Game Pass. This broadening of access lowers the barrier to entry for players who do not require the full suite of Ultimate benefits, such as cloud gaming on mobile devices.
However, this trade-off means that the distinction between tiers remains crucial for certain exclusive releases. Titles like RuneScape: Dragonwilds and Kernel Hearts remain exclusive to the Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers. Users on lower plans must weigh the cost of upgrading against the value of accessing these specific games. The strategy appears to be using mid-tier titles to retain users while keeping flagship exclusives as a primary driver for the top-tier subscription.
Library rotation removes popular games
As new games enter the library, others must leave to manage licensing and content balance. Several well-known titles are scheduled to exit the service on September 30. These include Atomfall, Sifu, and Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition. For subscribers who have not yet played these games, this deadline represents a final opportunity to access them through the subscription without purchasing them separately.
Microsoft offers a 20% discount on games leaving the service for subscribers, allowing them to purchase the title and keep it permanently in their library. This is a standard practice to encourage retention and revenue from users who value specific titles. The removal of these games highlights the transient nature of subscription services; access is not ownership. Players must actively manage their library to ensure they do not lose access to games they intend to replay in the future.
