Acer has begun selling a refreshed 16-inch gaming laptop in the United States, marking the return of its Nitro V line after a two-year hiatus. The new Nitro V 16S represents a significant strategic shift, prioritizing extended battery endurance over the raw processing power that defined its predecessors.
By swapping high-core-count Intel Raptor Lake chips for the newer Panther Lake architecture, the company claims the device can last up to 20 hours on a single charge. This longevity comes at the cost of reduced multi-threaded performance, creating a distinct trade-off for users who value all-day mobility alongside gaming capability.
Processor swap reduces core counts
The previous Nitro V 16S models relied on Intel Core 9 and Core 7 processors from the Raptor Lake-H series. These chips were known for high core and thread counts, which drove substantial power consumption. The new model replaces these with the Core Ultra 7 355, a processor built on Intel's latest architecture.
According to data reported by Notebookcheck, the Core Ultra 7 355 contains over 40% fewer CPU cores and 60% fewer threads than the older Core 9 270H. While the older chip remains faster in absolute performance terms, the newer processor is significantly more power-efficient, allowing the laptop to sustain operation for much longer periods without external power.

Acer states that the 76 Wh battery in the new Nitro V 16S can support up to 20 hours of video playback. For more active workloads, the company cites a figure of up to 7 hours under MobileMark 30 testing standards. The laptop is equipped with either an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 discrete graphics card, both configured with 85 W total graphics power.
