A new carrier plan effectively covers the cost of Apple's latest flagship, provided you are willing to switch providers or trade in an existing device.

T-Mobile has announced a promotion that covers the full price of the iPhone 18 Pro for customers who switch carriers or trade in an eligible device. According to reporting by GN auto tech/entertainment, this offer is available starting September 14 and runs until the official launch date on September 18. The deal is structured as a series of monthly bill credits rather than a one-time discount, which changes how the cost is perceived on a month-to-month basis.

The promotion requires subscribers to enroll in the Experience Beyond plan. While the headline value is up to $1,200 in credits, this amount is spread across 36 months. This means the device is not free upfront; instead, the carrier offsets the monthly payment over three years. For consumers, the primary benefit is avoiding the large initial outlay associated with buying a premium smartphone, but it comes with a long-term commitment to the carrier's service and pricing structure.

Eligible devices include recent models

To qualify for the maximum credit, users must trade in a specific list of high-end devices. For Apple users, this includes the iPhone 17 series, 16 series, and 15 Pro models. Samsung users can trade in recent Galaxy S-series and Z-series foldables, including the S26 Ultra and Z Fold7. Notably, the trade-in value does not depend on the physical condition of the phone, as long as it is on the eligible list. This lowers the barrier for those with older or damaged devices that might otherwise have little resale value.

Hidden costs remain for buyers

Despite the substantial credit, the deal is not entirely cost-free. Buyers are still responsible for sales tax on the device and a $35 connection fee. These additional charges are not covered by the bill credits. Furthermore, the offer is tied to the Experience Beyond plan, which typically costs more than standard postpaid plans. The trade-off is clear: the upfront cost of the phone is eliminated, but the monthly service cost is likely higher to compensate for the subsidy.

Consumers should weigh the convenience of a zero-cost device against the increased monthly expense. If a user already pays for a high-tier plan, the net savings may be minimal. However, for those looking to upgrade from an older model without a large cash outlay, this offer provides a straightforward path. The deadline to secure the deal before the general launch is September 18, after which standard pricing and trade-in values will likely apply.
