A new facility in China claims to be the first to produce 10,000 humanoid robots annually, using other machines to assist in the assembly process.

UBTECH Robotics has commenced operations at a facility in China designed to manufacture 10,000 humanoid robots per year. The company describes this as a global first, marking a significant shift toward high-volume industrial production of these complex machines.

While the narrative of robots building robots captures attention, the reality is more nuanced. Automated assembly lines in operation

The factory produces two main lines of humanoids: the Walker S series, which features legs, and the Cruzr series, which uses wheels. The production process relies on Cruzr Y1 and Cruzr S2 units to manage material handling and screw tightening. These robots support the creation of their own kind, effectively creating a closed-loop manufacturing system.

This setup allows for consistent output while reducing the physical burden on human workers. However, it also introduces new challenges in maintenance and coordination. If one robot fails, it could disrupt the entire line, requiring rapid troubleshooting to keep production on schedule.

Digital simulation guides physical build

Before physical construction began, engineers used Plant Simulation, a digital platform developed by Siemens. By creating a virtual replica of the factory, they could identify potential bottlenecks and safety issues in a risk-free environment. This digital twin approach helps minimize costly errors during the initial production phase.

The strategy reflects a broader trend in manufacturing, where software and simulation play a central role in optimizing physical processes. For UBTECH, this method supports their claim of having the infrastructure to scale production quickly. It also highlights the importance of cross-border technology partnerships in achieving such complex engineering feats.

China's robotics sector gains momentum

Pang Jianxin, Vice President of UBTECH Robotics, stated that Chinese robotics are now among the world's top tier. He attributed this position to the accumulation of engineers, scientists, and application scenarios over the past two decades. This depth of expertise provides a strong foundation for both manufacturing and research.

According to GN auto tech/robotics, the company believes its manufacturing capability and R&D capacity are now at the forefront of industrial applications. The richness of real-world testing environments in China is cited as a key advantage. This ecosystem allows for rapid iteration and deployment of new robotic technologies.
