NASA Prepares for 35th SpaceX Cargo Mission

NASA has opened media accreditation for the upcoming 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station, scheduled for launch from Florida.
NASA and SpaceX are targeting a launch window no earlier than October for the next delivery of supplies and scientific equipment to the International Space Station. The mission will utilize a Falcon 9 rocket to carry a Dragon spacecraft from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This is the 35th commercial resupply service mission conducted for NASA, continuing a long-standing partnership that ensures a steady flow of resources to the orbital laboratory.

Journalists must submit their requests online by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Thursday, October 1, to cover prelaunch and launch activities. Applicants will receive a confirmation email once their credentials are approved, and any questions regarding logistics can be directed to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center newsroom.
Delivering Critical Power Systems
Beyond standard crew supplies like food and equipment, this mission carries a significant piece of infrastructure: the final sets of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays, known as IROSA. Astronauts will install these arrays during future spacewalks to enhance the station’s power generation capabilities. This upgrade is essential for supporting critical station operations, including the safe and controlled deorbiting process at the end of the station’s life.
The trade-off for this logistical effort is substantial scientific potential. The Dragon spacecraft will transport hardware designed to manufacture artificial retinas in microgravity, a technique that could eventually help restore vision for patients on Earth. Additionally, the mission includes 3D heart cell models for large-scale drug testing and materials to study the formation of new types of glass in zero gravity.
Advancing Medical Research in Orbit
The cargo also includes brain organoids that may uncover treatment targets for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis. These experiments leverage the unique environment of space to observe biological processes that are difficult to replicate on Earth. By studying these systems in microgravity, researchers aim to gain insights that could lead to new medical breakthroughs.
NASA emphasizes that these commercial resupply missions ensure a national capability to deliver scientific research to the station. This consistent access significantly increases the agency’s ability to conduct new investigations aboard the orbital laboratory, which has continuously hosted human crews for over 25 years.
