SpaceX has entered a new cloud computing agreement with an anonymous client that is expected to generate approximately $1.11 billion in monthly revenue starting in December 2026. The company's Chief Financial Officer, Bret Johnsen, revealed the deal during a conference in New York, though he did not identify the customer. Reports suggest the contract will last for about six months, which would total roughly $6.66 billion if the full period is completed.

Executives have warned that spending at this level may continue throughout the year. High costs and future plans

The intense competition for computing power is driving these high prices. Major AI developers are racing to secure GPUs and electricity to train their models, creating a seller's market. SpaceX's unique position allows it to offer a combination of computing, energy, and networking capabilities that traditional cloud providers may not have. This differentiator could help it attract customers who need reliable, large-scale infrastructure for their most complex projects.

Looking further ahead, the company is exploring the possibility of moving some computing infrastructure into orbit. Plans are in place to deploy the first orbital data centers by the end of 2027. This ambitious project aims to address the physical limits of land-based data centers, such as power consumption and space constraints. While still in the planning phase, this initiative underscores the company's long-term vision for dominating the AI hardware landscape.
