BYD Denza Z9S Launches with 1,100 Km Range

BYD’s premium brand Denza will officially unveil the Z9S electric sedan on September 23, following a pre-sales period that began in early August. The vehicle enters a crowded segment by directly challenging rivals such as the Xiaomi SU7 and Xpeng P7. Pricing for the three available variants starts at 319,800 yuan, which is approximately $47,290, and reaches up to 389,800 yuan for the top specification.

According to reports from local automotive media outlets like Yiche and Auto Home, the launch date has been confirmed despite Denza’s official social media channels remaining silent on the specific timing. The Z9S is positioned as the third model in the Z9 series, aiming to capture buyers looking for long-distance capability and high performance in a mid-to-high-end electric sedan.

New Range Record Set

The headline feature of the Z9S is its claimed maximum range of 1,100 kilometers under the Chinese CLTC testing cycle. Denza describes this as a global record for a mass-produced battery electric vehicle, surpassing the previous benchmark of 1,036 kilometers set by the updated Denza Z9GT earlier this year. The three variants offer ranges of 780, 920, and 1,100 kilometers, all powered by BYD’s second-generation 102.3-kWh Blade Battery.

This significant increase in range is achieved without a dramatic jump in battery size, suggesting improved energy efficiency in the drivetrain and aerodynamics. For drivers, this means fewer stops for charging on long trips, a key concern for electric vehicle adopters. However, it is worth noting that CLTC figures are typically more optimistic than real-world consumption, so actual range will depend heavily on driving conditions and climate.

Performance and Charging Speed

Power options include a single rear-motor configuration producing 370 kW (496 hp) or a triple-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering a combined 890 kW. The high-performance version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.68 seconds. Charging infrastructure compatibility is a major focus, with the car supporting flash charging that adds energy from 10% to 70% in five minutes. Reaching 97% charge takes only nine minutes, significantly reducing wait times at fast-charging stations.

The vehicle is built on Denza’s e3 technology platform, which includes standard rear-wheel steering across all variants. This feature provides a minimum turning radius of 4.75 meters, making the large sedan surprisingly agile in tight urban spaces. The system allows for crab walking and compass turns, enhancing maneuverability in parking lots and narrow streets. The car also features a 120-liter front trunk and a 470-liter rear trunk, offering practical storage for daily use.

Advanced Driver Assistance Features

The Z9S comes equipped with roof-mounted LiDAR sensors and the God's Eye B driver assistance system. This setup runs on the latest God's Eye 5.0 software, which incorporates reinforcement learning into its end-to-end large model. The system supports navigation assistance on urban roads and highways, as well as parking assistance in various scenarios. Connectivity is broad, supporting integration with major smartphone brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and Samsung.

While the technology package is extensive, the reliance on complex AI-driven assistance requires careful user understanding of the system’s limitations. The car also includes an active power-operated spoiler and the DiSus-A intelligent air body control system to improve stability and comfort. Buyers can choose from seven exterior colors and three interior schemes.
