Key points

  • Charge Rigs Adaptiv is a modular off-grid depot that uses automated generators for EV fast charging.
  • The system coordinates power demand via cloud software, eliminating manual generator management between sessions.
  • Fleets can deploy the system in days, using customer-supplied generators for the actual charging energy.

Charge Rigs has introduced Adaptiv, a modular depot system designed to bridge the gap between electric vehicle adoption and the slow rollout of permanent utility infrastructure. The solution targets fleet operators who need immediate charging capacity at new or temporary sites without waiting for fixed grid connections.

As reported by natlawreview.com, the system combines DC fast chargers with automated power management to coordinate with customer-supplied generators. This allows businesses to establish a functional charging operation in a matter of days once the equipment arrives, rather than months.

Automated Generator Operation

The core of the Adaptiv system is its ability to treat generator-supported charging as a coordinated process rather than a series of manual tasks. When a driver authorizes a charging session, the Power Demand Module automatically requests a generator startup. Charging begins only after stable 480-volt power is detected and safety checks are satisfied.

The system manages the entire lifecycle of the session, including increasing charging demand in controlled steps and handling the cooldown and shutdown sequence when the vehicle is full. This automation significantly reduces the need for staff to manually intervene between sessions, streamlining operations for busy depots.

Communication-Driven Power Management

Adaptiv relies on continuous communication between hardware and software to function. The Power Demand Module talks to the generator equipment and the Asynio cloud management platform, which in turn coordinates with the chargers running Titanium controls. This network ensures that power generation matches the actual charging demand in real-time.

It is important to note that the Power Demand Module provides only auxiliary power for controls and communications. The actual energy used to charge the vehicles comes from the customer-supplied generator and distribution equipment. This distinction means the system is a coordination layer, not a power source itself.

Flexible Deployment and Ownership

The modular design allows chargers to be positioned on specialized bases to fit specific site layouts, rather than being locked into a single trailer configuration. An optional trailer-mounted docking station supports operations that need to move equipment between locations, making it suitable for temporary depots or leased facilities.

Customers can choose to purchase the hardware or opt for a Charging as a Service arrangement through KwiqEV. While the system offers flexibility, the trade-off is that the generator and distribution panel remain the customer’s responsibility. Deployment can be quick, but manufacturing, delivery, and site preparation timelines are separate from the installation process.
