Kia is offering substantial markdowns on its EV9, with some dealerships cutting prices by more than $15,000. This aggressive pricing strategy brings the cost of the electric SUV down to the low $40,000s, a significant reduction from its standard starting price.
According to Electrek, these discounts are a direct response to the expiration of the federal electric vehicle tax credit. By stepping in with larger incentives, Kia aims to maintain sales momentum for a model that has recently seen a 12% increase in US sales compared to last year.
Local Deals Beat National Offers
While Kia’s official website lists a nationwide $10,000 cash discount, individual dealers are competing with much higher figures. One dealership in Texas is offering a $16,041 reduction on the base model, effectively lowering the price to nearly $40,500. Another location in Illinois is offering a $15,000 cut, bringing the total cost to just over $42,000 including fees.
Range Trade-Offs In Pricing
The deepest discounts are currently available on the Short Range version of the EV9. This model provides approximately 230 miles of driving range. Buyers who need more distance can still find significant savings on the Long Range version, which offers up to 305 miles of range, though these prices remain slightly higher than the base trim.
Affordability In Electric SUV Market
These moves make the EV9 one of the most affordable three-row electric SUVs on the US market. The pricing strategy helps offset the loss of the previous federal tax credit, ensuring the vehicle remains competitive against gas-powered rivals.
