Mazda 6e Gets 78 kWh Battery and New Charging Speed
The 2027 Mazda 6e arrives in Europe with a larger battery, faster charging, and refined interior options, marking a significant upgrade for the brand's electric lineup.
Mazda is preparing a substantial update to its electric fastback for the European market. The 2027 model year will introduce a new battery pack and refined driver assistance features. This update addresses previous limitations in range and charging speed, positioning the vehicle as a more capable competitor in the mid-size electric segment.
The vehicle, originally known as the EZ-6, is produced through a joint venture in China. For Europe, it is offered strictly as a battery electric vehicle. The upcoming changes include a standardized powertrain that replaces previous options, aiming to simplify the buyer's choice while improving overall performance metrics.
New Battery Boosts Charging Speed
The core of this update is a new 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. This capacity allows for fast charging at up to 200 kW. According to GN auto tech/ev: electric vehicle, this setup enables a WLTP range of up to 560 km. While this is a solid figure for daily driving, the trade-off is that the charging speed remains below the ultra-fast levels offered by some premium rivals, meaning top-up times at public stations will still require planning.
Interior Options and New Grades
Mazda is also reshaping the interior lineup. A new Homura Plus grade adds sportier visual cues, including gloss black moldings and a cabin with black Nappa leather and red stitching. The existing Takumi grades see adjustments to their upholstery choices. Notably, the Warm Beige Maztex option has been removed from the base Takumi grade, limiting the color variety for budget-focused buyers.
The Takumi Plus grade now offers two distinct interior trims, including a new Warm Beige option paired with Nappa leather. These changes allow customers to choose between a more sporty or luxurious feel, though the reduction in base-level options means some previous configurations are no longer available.
Refined Driver Assistance Features
On the road, the updated powertrain delivers 190 kW of power. Mazda has also refined the Advanced Driver Assist System. The Cruising and Traffic Support function now operates at speeds up to 160 kph. Lane Keep Assist has been tuned for smoother steering inputs. These improvements aim to make long-distance driving less fatiguing, though they do not replace the need for constant driver attention.
The 2027 Mazda 6e is scheduled to arrive in Europe in November 2026. This timeline allows for final calibration and dealer training before the model hits the market. Buyers should note that while the hardware is updated, the software-based features will rely on regular over-the-air updates to maintain their responsiveness.
