The setup allows owners to charge their vehicle simply by parking over a ground pad, eliminating the need to handle heavy cables. How the wireless system works

The technology consists of three main components. First, the car has built-in hardware as standard. Second, a pad is fitted to the underside of the vehicle. Third, a heavy, weatherproof pad is installed on the driveway or garage floor. When the car is parked correctly, charging begins automatically.

Porsche claims the system operates efficiently, with about 90 percent of energy transferred despite the air gap between the pad and the car. It is designed to function in temperatures ranging from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius. Safety features include motion sensors and foreign object detection, which shut down the system if a person, animal, or metal object is detected on the pad.

Installation and practical limitations

While the system removes the hassle of plugging in, it has physical constraints. The ground pad weighs 50 kg and stands 60 mm tall. Crucially, it cannot be embedded into the floor for a seamless finish. This means it remains a visible, raised object on the driveway, which may not suit every aesthetic preference.

The pad functions as a standard home wall box, meaning users do not need to pay for a separate charger installation. It also integrates with the Porsche phone app for monitoring and control. Pricing and market context
