TERREPOWER Launches EV Battery Reuse Brand Across Europe and North America

A major automotive parts supplier has introduced a new brand focused on extending the life of electric vehicle batteries. The move aims to address growing volumes of used packs by offering repair and recycling services.

TERREPOWER has introduced Ontility, a new brand dedicated to managing the entire lifecycle of electric vehicle batteries. The company, formerly known as BBB Industries, is rolling out these services across its operations in Europe and North America. The initiative covers a range of activities, from reusing and remanufacturing packs to recycling them once they are no longer fit for vehicle use.

The launch comes as the industry faces a growing number of electric vehicles reaching the end of their initial warranty periods. TERREPOWER positions Ontility as a provider of validated, warranty-backed battery systems for out-of-warranty cars. The goal is to offer installation-ready units that reduce service times and provide a lower-cost alternative to buying entirely new battery packs.

Extending Battery Life Reduces Costs

Duncan Gillis, the CEO of TERREPOWER, stated that the market is entering a phase where extending the life of existing batteries is just as important as manufacturing new ones. As millions of early electric vehicles age, the demand for trusted partners who can restore and validate battery value is increasing. This approach allows owners to keep their vehicles on the road longer without the steep expense of a full replacement.

Michael Boe, the company’s president for Europe, emphasized that the strategy prioritizes restoring batteries to service rather than treating them as waste. By extending vehicle life, the company aims to reduce material consumption and support a more circular approach to electrification. This method helps create a sustainable loop where resources are reused rather than discarded, aligning with broader environmental goals.

Diagnostic Gaps Complicate Maintenance

The timing of this launch is influenced by data showing significant variation in how batteries age. A study by Austrian diagnostics firm AVILOO found that battery health can differ by up to 13.5 percent between individual cars of the same model. This gap, identified through over 500,000 tests, represents real differences in range and reliability that standard dashboard readings often fail to reveal.

Another study by UK firm Generational found that one in every 85 used electric vehicles carries a hidden cell-level imbalance. This fault can affect charging behavior and range without triggering any warning lights on the dashboard. These findings highlight a need for direct testing to determine whether a battery should be restored, repurposed, or recycled, a gap that Ontility seeks to fill.

New EU Regulations Drive Change

TERREPOWER’s expansion coincides with stricter European rules on battery management. Under the EU’s 2023 Batteries Regulation, electric vehicle batteries with a capacity above two kilowatt-hours placed on the market from January 2026 must carry a digital battery passport. This electronic record tracks the battery’s composition, condition, and history throughout its life, adding a layer of transparency to the market.

The company cites North American adoption rates and European sales growth as reasons for entering these markets now. In Europe, battery electric vehicle sales grew by 38 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2025. This trend suggests a surge in first-life batteries reaching the end of their automotive service life within the next few years, creating a substantial opportunity for lifecycle management services.
