Hydaway Digital has formalized a strategic partnership with Toronto-based firm Group APZ to secure a steady supply of high-performance graphics hardware. This move aims to stabilize the infrastructure behind its AI verification tools and rental services.

Hydaway Digital Corp. has designated Group APZ as its primary source for GPU hardware and procurement advisory services. The Vancouver-based company, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, signed a preferred provider agreement to ensure reliable access to the computing power required for its RealityChek content verification platform and its GPU rental business. This arrangement is designed to streamline the complex process of sourcing expensive high-performance equipment in a rapidly evolving market.

The deal grants Hydaway a dedicated channel for purchasing critical components while also providing expert guidance on supply chain optimization. Group APZ specializes in reducing costs for AI infrastructure projects, a capability that Hydaway views as essential for scaling its operations. By securing a first-choice provider, the company intends to maintain competitive pricing for its customers while ensuring the technological backbone of its verification tools remains robust and available.

Securing Compute Capacity

The core of this partnership revolves around the acquisition of graphics processing units, which are the engines driving modern artificial intelligence workloads. For Hydaway, these chips are not just components but the fundamental infrastructure that allows its RealityChek technology to analyze and verify content at scale. The agreement covers both direct hardware purchases and advisory services, helping the company navigate global supply chains that are often fragmented and volatile.

Karl Kottmeier, CEO of Hydaway, emphasized that securing a reliable supply chain is a strategic priority. He noted that as demand for compute capacity accelerates, having a partner with deep expertise in hardware sourcing provides a significant advantage. This stability allows the company to focus on developing its software products rather than constantly scrambling for hardware availability, which can be a bottleneck for smaller tech firms.

Non-Exclusive Procurement Terms

It is important to note that this agreement is preferred but not exclusive. Hydaway retains the flexibility to source hardware from other vendors if necessary, though Group APZ will be the first point of contact for new procurement needs. Individual purchases will be made through purchase orders at competitive rates. This structure offers a balance between the security of a dedicated supplier and the market agility to seek better deals elsewhere.

The initial term of the agreement is one year, with provisions for automatic annual renewals. This duration provides enough time to establish a working relationship and test the efficiency of the new procurement channel. Group APZ’s managing director, Seena Arjomandi, highlighted that the AI infrastructure sector moves quickly, requiring partners who can navigate complex global logistics while delivering cost-effective solutions.

Balancing Costs And Access

The primary stake for Hydaway is the ability to keep operational costs predictable. High-performance GPUs are expensive, and their prices fluctuate based on supply and demand. By leveraging Group APZ’s expertise in supply chain cost reductions, Hydaway aims to protect its margins on the GPU rental platform. This is crucial for remaining competitive in a market where large cloud providers often dominate pricing.

However, the trade-off involves reliance on a single advisory partner for a critical resource. While the non-exclusive nature of the deal mitigates some risk, the company’s growth is now partly tied to the performance and reliability of this procurement channel. If supply chains remain disrupted, even the best procurement strategy may face limitations. Hydaway has indicated it will provide updates as significant hardware milestones are achieved, signaling that the full impact of this partnership will be felt over time.
