The company recently completed a proof of concept with NHN Cloud for its new distributed disaster recovery platform, DatArk Enterprise. This system is designed to manage data volumes ranging from hundreds of terabytes to multiple petabytes using low-cost commodity servers rather than specialized hardware.

The move targets organizations that combine cloud infrastructure with on-premises systems. By listing its services on the NHN Cloud marketplace, Koneksi seeks to expand its backup and recovery business. The strategy relies on partnerships with Managed Service Providers to reach industries such as finance, manufacturing, and gaming, where large-scale data protection is critical.

Software replaces dedicated hardware costs

Traditional enterprise storage often requires expensive redundant equipment and separate replication solutions. DatArk Enterprise uses software to combine the storage capacity of multiple standard servers into a single cluster. This approach eliminates dependence on proprietary hardware, allowing companies to scale by adding inexpensive servers rather than purchasing costly new units.

This shift reduces the total cost of ownership by lowering initial deployment expenses and long-term licensing fees. However, the trade-off is a reliance on software complexity and network performance. The system distributes and replicates data across nodes, meaning a failure in one part of the cluster does not bring down the entire service, but it requires robust network management to ensure efficiency.

Automated recovery handles system failures

A key feature of the platform is automatic healing. When the system detects a failure or data corruption on specific nodes, it uses data from healthy nodes to rebuild the missing replicas. This process occurs continuously without manual intervention from administrators, maintaining the protection level of the data automatically.

Integrity checks protect against ransomware

The platform also includes continuous data integrity verification. This feature ensures that data remains recoverable in the event of ransomware attacks or storage device failures. Companies can add this protection layer to their existing network-attached storage or server environments without replacing their infrastructure wholesale, which eases the burden of migration.

As cloud computing drives an explosion in enterprise data, the industry is reassessing traditional high-cost storage structures. Koneksi positions this software-based model as an opportunity for scalable infrastructure. While the solution lowers costs, it requires careful integration with existing systems to ensure that the automated recovery mechanisms work seamlessly under high load conditions.
