Kia PV7 Electric Van Targets 2027 Launch with 460km Range
Kia is set to expand its electric commercial lineup with the PV7, a larger van designed for heavy-duty logistics and passenger transport. The vehicle aims to balance long-range capability with flexible cargo and seating options for business users.
Kia has unveiled the PV7 electric van at the IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany. This new model sits above the PV5 in the brand's dedicated electric vehicle lineup. It is designed to serve logistics fleets, shuttle services, and small businesses that require more capacity than standard urban vans. The launch is scheduled for the second half of 2027 in Korea and Europe, with other markets to follow.
The vehicle is built on Kia's E-GMP.S architecture, which allows for various body styles from a single platform. The PV7 is offered in Cargo and Passenger versions. While the Cargo model focuses on payload and volume, the Passenger version is tailored for crew transport and tourism. This dual approach allows businesses to choose a configuration that matches their specific operational needs.
Battery Options Define Daily Range
According to GN auto tech/ev reports, the van will be available with two battery sizes: 71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh. The larger battery pack enables a WLTP range of over 460 kilometers for the Long Range Cargo variant. This range is critical for commercial operators who need to cover longer daily routes without frequent stops for recharging.
The powertrain produces up to 200 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, with an all-wheel-drive version planned for the future. The 800-volt electrical architecture supports fast charging, with Kia claiming a 10% to 80% charge in the mid-20-minute range using a 350-kW DC charger. However, this charging speed remains subject to final confirmation. The van also features dual charging ports, including a front AC/DC port and an optional rear-side AC port, adding flexibility for different charging scenarios.
Cargo Space Meets Passenger Comfort
The Cargo version offers up to 8.0 cubic meters of space in the High Roof model and a payload capacity of up to 1,200 kg. The Long version can accommodate three Euro pallets and features a low loading height of 550 mm. Practical features include a heavy-load driving mode that adjusts vehicle behavior based on payload, and a Smart Walk Away function that automatically closes sliding doors when the driver leaves with the key.
The Passenger version is designed for different use cases, carrying up to nine people globally, with configurations for up to 11 in the Korean market. The seven-seat model features easily removable seats for flexible cabin layouts. This versatility allows the vehicle to serve as a shuttle, rental car, or family vehicle, depending on the configuration chosen by the buyer or fleet operator.
Business Tools Reduce Operating Costs
Kia positions the PV7 as a connected business tool rather than just a vehicle. The strategy includes hardware, software, and service components aimed at improving productivity. Features like remote cargo-door status checks and advanced connectivity are intended to streamline operations for fleet managers. The goal is to reduce downtime and enhance the efficiency of daily commercial activities.
The trade-off for this versatility is a larger footprint compared to the PV5, which may limit its use in tight urban spaces. However, for businesses needing higher payload and range, the PV7 offers a compelling option. The 2027 launch will determine how well it competes in the growing electric light commercial vehicle market, where operational efficiency is a key driver for adoption.
