Leapmotor B03X Brings Affordable Electric Crossover to Europe

Leapmotor is set to expand its European footprint with the introduction of the B03X, a compact all-electric crossover aimed at the mass market. With orders opening in July and a starting list price of €24,900, the vehicle positions itself as a budget-friendly alternative in a rapidly growing segment. The car was recently tested by media in Spain, covering urban streets and coastal highways to demonstrate its versatility.

The B03X is designed to blend the higher seating position of an SUV with the maneuverability of a city car. At 4.27 meters long, it remains compact enough for tight urban parking, aided by a 10-meter turning circle. However, the focus is on maximizing interior utility within a small exterior footprint, a strategy that appeals to families and daily commuters seeking practicality over raw performance.

Interior space prioritized over raw speed

A key feature of the B03X is its cabin packaging, which leverages a dedicated electric platform and a flat floor to create surprising room for passengers. Rear legroom measures 947 mm, and headroom is sufficient for most adults, addressing a common complaint in smaller crossover models. The vehicle offers 510 liters of standard cargo space, which expands to over 1,600 liters when the rear seats are folded, making it suitable for larger loads.

Practicality is further enhanced by 33 dedicated storage compartments, including a waterproof section under the trunk floor. While the interior design is minimalist, with a horizontal dashboard and dual screens, the emphasis remains on usability. This approach translates to a car that may lack the luxury feel of more expensive rivals but offers significant everyday utility for the price.

Two battery options define range limits

The B03X is available with two Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery configurations. The entry-level Pro model features a 39.8 kWh battery and a 130 kW motor, delivering a WLTP range of up to 292 km. The higher-spec ProMax version upgrades to a 53.0 kWh battery and a 145 kW motor, extending the maximum range to 382 km. Both versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, which is adequate for highway driving but not sporty.

The infotainment system is centered around a 14.6-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. This setup supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with over-the-air software updates. The Leapmotor app allows for remote climate control and battery pre-heating, ensuring the car is ready for use in various weather conditions.

These features are standard across the lineup, avoiding the need for expensive add-on packages. While the user interface is modern, the hardware is focused on efficiency rather than cutting-edge graphics. This ensures the system remains responsive without draining the battery, a critical consideration for the vehicle's primary goal of maximizing driving range on a tight budget.
