Nio ES8 Reaches 150,000 Deliveries in One Year

Nio's flagship SUV has become the backbone of the company's sales, achieving a major milestone in just twelve months.
Nio Inc. has officially delivered its 150,000th third-generation ES8, marking the model’s first anniversary since launch. This large all-electric SUV has quickly become the primary driver of the company’s revenue, accounting for the majority of Nio brand deliveries in the first eight months of the year. The milestone was celebrated in Beijing, where Nio president Qin Lihong personally handed the keys to the final vehicle of the batch.
The rapid sales pace indicates strong consumer demand for high-end electric SUVs in the Chinese market. Data from CnEVPost shows that the ES8 delivered nearly 100,000 units between January and August, representing over 60% of all Nio brand sales. This performance has allowed the model to rank first in the large SUV category and the premium price segment of 400,000 yuan, outpacing competitors with both electric and internal combustion engines.
Sales Pace Remains Consistent
The company reports that the most recent 10,000 units were delivered in just 30 days, matching the speed of the previous batch. This consistency suggests that production and supply chains are keeping up with market demand without significant bottlenecks. August saw a slight increase in monthly deliveries compared to July, with the model exceeding 10,000 units for the second consecutive month.
The ES8 and its more premium sibling, the ES9, together made up over 80% of Nio brand sales in August. This highlights the critical role these large vehicles play in the brand’s overall financial health. For Nio, which operates in a highly competitive sector, such concentration in a single model line presents both a strength in brand recognition and a risk if consumer preferences shift away from large SUVs.
New Five-Seat Variant Expands Market
A key factor in the recent sales boost is the introduction of a five-seat version of the ES8, launched in July. This new configuration allows the vehicle to compete in the large five-seat segment, previously untapped by the six- and seven-seat models. The entry price for this version is slightly lower than the three-row layouts, making it more accessible to a broader range of buyers.
The pricing strategy includes a battery-as-a-service option, which reduces the upfront cost significantly by separating the purchase of the vehicle from the battery pack. This trade-off offers lower initial capital expenditure for customers but introduces a recurring monthly fee, a model that requires a long-term commitment to be financially advantageous. This approach is designed to lower the barrier to entry for premium electric vehicles.
Customer Satisfaction Leads Segment
Beyond raw sales figures, the ES8 has also garnered high marks for customer satisfaction. A recent industry study by Land Roads ranked the model first among all-electric vehicles in brand health, with a Net Promoter Score of 85.3. This metric reflects the likelihood of owners recommending the vehicle to others, a crucial indicator of long-term brand loyalty.
According to GN auto tech/ev: electric vehicle reports, owners have praised the vehicle’s spacious interior and stable ride quality, particularly for long-distance travel. These attributes align with the needs of users who require reliability for extended journeys, a key selling point for the ES8. However, maintaining this high level of satisfaction will require consistent quality control as production scales to meet the high demand.
