Green GSM Hands over 1,000 EVs to Filipino Drivers

Green GSM Philippines has marked a significant shift in the country's public transport sector by handing over 1,000 electric vehicles to its driver partners. The event, held in Las Piñas City from September 12 to 14, brought together up to 5,000 current and prospective drivers. This large-scale transfer is intended to address the growing demand for greener transportation options while expanding the service capacity available to the public.

The handover is the centerpiece of a broader strategy to make electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible. By providing these vehicles, the company aims to offer drivers more efficient operating models. This move is designed to support the transition to green transportation, potentially reducing reliance on gasoline-powered vehicles in daily operations.

Lowering entry barriers for drivers

A key feature of this initiative is a new vehicle rental model designed specifically for driver partners. According to reports from GN auto tech/ev: electric vehicle, the initial investment required to join the program starts at just PHP 5,000. This low entry point is intended to reduce the financial barrier for drivers who want to transition to electric operations without shouldering the full cost of purchasing a vehicle upfront.

Drivers can choose from specific VinFast electric models, including the 4-seater Herio Green/VF 5 and the 7-seater Limo Green. These vehicles are selected for their suitability in service operations, offering smooth performance and ease of use. The company claims these models provide optimized energy and maintenance costs compared to gasoline vehicles in the same segment, which is a critical factor for the profitability of individual drivers.

Warranty and charging support

To further support these drivers, Green GSM has introduced support programs that include free charging for pioneering partners. Additionally, VinFast provides warranty coverage of up to seven years or 160,000 kilometers for the Limo Green and VF 5/Herio Green models. This coverage is intended to mitigate the risk of unexpected repair costs, allowing drivers to focus on their earnings with greater confidence.

However, the reliance on a specific manufacturer and a platform-based ecosystem introduces certain dependencies. Drivers are bound to the operational policies and service networks of Green GSM and VinFast. While the warranty and charging support offer significant financial relief, the long-term success of the model depends on the stability of these partnerships and the continued availability of charging infrastructure.

Building a driver community

Beyond the vehicles, Green GSM is launching a Global Green GSM Driver Partner Community in the Philippines. This platform is designed to connect drivers, allowing them to share experiences, stay updated on policies, and learn from one another. The goal is to create a more professional and connected network of operators who can support each other in navigating the challenges of electric vehicle operations.

During the festival, participants also had the opportunity to test-drive the vehicles and receive assistance with registration procedures. This hands-on approach aims to ease the transition for drivers, ensuring they are comfortable with the new technology and aware of the available benefits. The company states that this community engagement is a long-term commitment to enhancing service quality and sustainability in the sector.
